In this article The Logo Creative looks at the tool created by Jessica Hische that helps designers Say “No” To Free and Low-Budget Logo Design Work

Working for free is a debated area in the design industry from well established design agencies to self employed freelance graphic designers looking to get their foot in the door and it can be hard to work out if providing your services is for a worthwhile course or your been taken advantage of.

Graphic Designer Jessica Hische as also designed a chart regarding the subject of should i work for free but this time she has designed this tool that will help graphic designers with any sort of creative work say no to doing free work but in our case Say “No” To Free and Low-Budget Logo Design Work

If you are one of those designers who is in this situation and you really want to say “NO” but you cant quite figure out how to write a nice email and put it in to words that you don’t work for free her interactive “Client Email Helper” gives us designers the language to replay back nicely to turn down free or low budget paid work, as well as also been able to negotiate for and accept projects with a fair budget and pay rate.

It works as a choose your own section as to the client your dealing with for instance are you dealing with a general client with a very low budget, the sections you choose with determine the email response it will present you with to send to the client and this can also be edited if you want to change anything.

I recommend clicking all the options and having a read at the presented information below is and example of a general client with a very low budget.

As I am a professional artist, not a hobbyist, and as your company is a for-profit organization, I should be compensated appropriately for work performed. I, and many other creatives, feel strongly about keeping pricing standards high so that it’s possible to make a living as a creative professional. Fair pay is important — it is wrong to ask artists to create very low-paying work for a for-profit company, even if that work goes unused, because our time is valuable and we have bills to pay and families to support like everyone else.

What i love about this project is although its a simple concept it takes every client in to account then presents a response for that individual client. Even though this is aimed at the design and creative industry i suppose it can be used for any type of business that deals with clients with budgets and some slight alterations will need to be made in the wording of the email but overall i think Jessica has done a great job creating this and i felt it deserved a designer spotlight.
