Japan the land of the rising sun bonsai trees and sushi. It’s where people go in the hopes of seeing ninjas and sumo wrestlers. Japan is quite a unique country with lots of culture!

In the design world, Japanese elements have always been such a popular inspiration. There’s something about the Japanese culture that makes everyone boost their creative juices. That been said, Japan is the home of some of the greatest minds in the entire world, with their anime a style of Japanese film and television animation and Japanese robotics and everything else that’s going on. Japan has set an amazing culture of mixing innovative technology and clever, original, and inventive design, and it makes designers drool in envy.

Just because you’re not Japanese does not mean you don’t get to enjoy integrating anything Japanese into your own design work.

Let’s get right in there with logo design.

What are some popular Japanese elements you can add to your current (and future) logo design projects?

Food

Japan is known for their ramen and sushi dishes and a lot of other amazing finds that delight the root of the mouth. Of course, these can also be used as elements for any Japanese-inspired logo design. A bowl of ramen speaks volumes, and a roll of sushi would automatically transport anyone to the Land of the Rising Sun.

People

You have to admit. You have, at one point, wondered whether there were ninjas hiding up in trees or lurking in the shadows around corners in Japan. But that would be challenging to find one, because that’s exactly what ninjas are good at. Being invisible. But you can go ahead and make those ninjas visible in the logo designs you’re designing. Feel like using something else? Sumo wrestlers are also reminiscent of Japan, and so are samurais.

Flowers and Plants

Cherry blossom trees only bloom once a year, so people flock to Japan to witness how these blooms light up the area. Bamboo is also something prevalent in Japan, and so are bonsai, those miniature plants that people collect for good luck.

Weapons

Samurai swords, shuriken, knives — all these weapons used by samurais and ninjas are also used in a lot of Japanese art. These are elements you can use on a logo that may not be related to weapons, but to strength, fierceness, or anything similar.

Structures

There’s something distinct about the way Japanese structures are designed, especially when it comes to their temples and dojos. The way the roof slopes is truly graceful, making it a great element to use in your logo designs.
