I would personally like to thank Jeremy Millar the author of Brand New Name for sending us an advance copy of the book it was a great read and one of the best books I have read this year.
As I do with all book reviews I will start with the cover design and I must say I really like the design on the cover of brand new name, as I have said countless times in the past a book cover is one of the most important elements a book has as it grabs the reader’s attention which will spark interest for what the reader will find within the pages of the book.
The cover design really sold the book to me, and it really does a great job here at selling the contents of the book.
The first thing that stands out with the cover design it’s the bright yellow colour and the Bold lettering of the book’s title brand new name. Another interesting element I like is how great emphasis is placed on the word new which is the reason why you are reading the book to create a brand “NEW” name for a company
I also like how the words
A PROVEN — STEP-BY-STEP — PROCESS TO CREATE — AN UNFORGETTABLE BRAND NAME
Are arrowed from one to another and also going in and out of the bold heading of “BRAND NEW NAME” showing a process with the end result being a “BRAND NEW NAME” This is how I see it and if intentional it’s clever. Top marks for the cover design as it does a fantastic job in being eye-catching, and informing the reader what the book is about and what they will learn and achieve from reading it.
Brand New Name is a well-made book with a high quality and premium feel. The sine of the book is solid and made for good durability.

We asked Jeremy the author a few questions about the book including how the book came to be, if he followed the same process when naming the book, and his words of wisdom for you the readers.
The Logo Creative — Where did the idea come from to write the book? And what sparked that motivation to create it?
Jeremy Miller — Necessity is the mother of all invention. I’ve been an entrepreneur for over 15 years. I have named three of my own companies, dozens of products, and lots of client projects. And I was always frustrated with the process. The books and guides never answered my question.
It reminds of an old internet meme, “How to draw an owl. A fun and creative guide for beginners.”
Step 1: Draw 2 circles. One for the head and one for the body.
Step 2: Draw the rest of the damn owl!
Arghhh! This sums up the experience many of us have with naming. We don’t do it very often, and it is getting progressively harder and harder to find available names for your brands. But all the guides and how-to manuals simply give us the “why” and the “what.”
They tell us why we need great names, and what it means to have a great name. But they don’t show us how! They just say, “Draw the rest of the damn owl.” It drives me nuts!
I saw an opportunity in Brand New Name to create a tool — something that shows you what to do every step of the way without hiring a consultant or agency.
The Logo Creative — How long did the process take to complete the book?
Jeremy Miller — Book writing is a marathon. It was almost two years to bring the book to market: from book proposal to publication date.
The actual writing and design of the book took 9 months.
The Logo Creative — What was the biggest challenge you faced when writing the book?
Jeremy Miller — Fear! It was truly self-doubt that held me back. I knew there was a need to a naming book — I know I wish I had one — but it’s a niche topic. There were only two to three books on naming on amazon, and the sales data was not encouraging. I was entering a niche market, and I couldn’t validate if there was enough demand to justify the time, resource and cost to publish a book.
What pushed me over the edge was my belief in the importance of the topic. Everybody needs to name something at least once, and it’s one of the most important business decisions you can ever make. You know a brand by its name, and it’s the longest living artifact in any organization. People change, strategies change, marketing campaigns change — but names do not. Getting it right is essential!
The Logo Creative — When naming the book “BRAND NEW NAME” did you go through the same process outlined in the book?
Jeremy Miller — I did! The first title for the book was Namestorming. I loved that title, but it was already trademarked. I couldn’t use it!
We ran the Brand New Name process to generate over 150 potential names, and we shortlisted three:
- Name This _ _ _ _!
- Everything Starts With a Name
- Brand New Name
We used all the tools and process to ideate, evaluate, test and select the name for the book.
The Logo Creative — Do you have any advice or words of wisdom for the readers?
Jeremy Miller — How you choose your names says a lot about you and your organization. It demonstrates you care. And it’s a good sign for what’s to come for you, your business, and your brand.
